Fleming Agri-Products Ltd
Chief Executive, George Fleming, Londonderry

Project:

  • Three-dimensional drawings were developed for the latest product – a pasture topper.

  • A programme was developed by ‘Singularity’ at a competitive price to forward plan the company’s raw material purchasing requirements.

  • A second programme, introducing sales order processing software to improve efficiency in order processing and dispatch.

The Company:
Fleming Agriculture was established in 1860 and supply’s engineered products to the farming industry. The company has been broadening its target market to include the growing horticultural equipment sector. The company currently manufactures and distributes a wide range of products including grass toppers, land rollers and bale-handling equipment.

The Project:
MTP have been involved with the company’s development over the past few years during which three specific projects and a web site have been completed. The first project required three-dimensional drawings to be prepared for the latest product being developed – a pasture topper, and the remaining two related to the development of a stock control system.

Making it Happen:

  • MTP
  • Invest NI - Innovation Credit
  • University of Ulster
  • Singularity

MTP’s Partner the University of Ulster produced a set of three-dimensional drawings for the pasture topper as well as assisting in the design of a new web site. The site has been live since 1998. Both of these projects were financially supported by Invest NI ‘Innovation Credit’.

The Result...
Having the design documentation available at an early stage of the pasture toppers’ development gave the company a resource that it’s been able to call upon to help ensure the final quality of components produced both in-house and by subcontractors. Due to the early setting up of the Web Site, Fleming Agri-Products is well placed to take competitive advantage of the opportunities that are beginning to flow from the site.

Project 2
The company expressed a need to develop a simple method for combining the stock information available on their existing accountancy software (Sage Line 50) with information on future production scheduling.

The Result...
An equivalent of two days per month were saved which were previously spent carrying out the work manually and an increase in accuracy of the information available to the management.

Project 3
The company needed to develop their order processing and dispatch further.

The Result...
From this project, the company was able to achieve better customer delivery, improved planning and forecasting. The company is aiming to improve turnover by 1% and customer satisfaction by 20%.

George Fleming:
“University of Ulster’s involvement has ensured the final quality of the components produced and Singularity have helped us to save time and Money”
