The
Project:
Managing Director, Danny McIlroy was keen to develop a range
of added value poultry and fish products that could be competitively
exported to the Republic of Ireland. Assistance was required
with the formulation of the
products, the preparation of customer samples and product
testing. At this point a meeting was held between an MTP Field
Officer and Danny to explain the services and assistance that
could be provided by MTP and its partner organisations.
Making it Happen:

Expertise was identified at College of Agriculture,
Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) – Loughry Campus who
undertook the development work and provided Mac’s Quality
Foods with a choice of recipes for each of the product types.
The company chose the recipe, which met the required cost
criteria and the type of product they required. Loughry also
undertook product analysis to ensure legal compliance. The
Invest NI Innovation Credit grant scheme was used to support
the work undertaken.
The Result...
The chicken products have been successfully
launched and are expected to generate sales which will give
the project a Net Present Value of £50,000.
